Meltdowns? No good solution except maybe a song!?

Ok so I’m sure all of you are very familiar with your 2-3 year old going into a “meltdown” a few times a week. If not, just go search another site now! pleeeze. But for those of you Dad’s out there that experience this frustrating, comical, insane, hey-i’d-rather-be-at-work, a fact of life of a toddler then read on.

I don’t have an answer but did find a song that is ALL about the “meltdown” and wanted to give this guy, Justin Roberts, a plug for some entertaining kids music that I actually find not half bad to listen to by myself. I go through music like a dog goes through trash so I’m always searching for something new to spark my interests and keep my short attention span. Well this guy, Justin Roberts, write some good children songs that are very fitting for us Dad’s that are living with our toddler, and then some, kids!

Justin Robert’s MeltdownI download a few tracks off with eMusic or iTunes last week and plan to burn to cd for our enjoyment on the daily commute “looking for Swiper the Sneaky Fox”, trees with changing color leaves, and whatever else my three year old son, “Boo”, thinks up and wants to hunt for! It’s a good time in the car until the “meltdown”. So here is a quick review of Justin Roberts music.

Meltdown: just a perfect song for all of us Dad’s dealing with the craziness of a meltdown. A meltdown is totally random, it happens when least expected and sometimes just because a piece of Boo’s cookie fell onto the floor. Well I’m not sure what hooks me with “Meltdown” maybe it’s Justin’s high energy, squeeky, vocals and the true lyrics of a meltdown. I can definitely see myself leaving the daycare dropoff listening to this song and others of Justin’s. Of course about a year ago, “Big Red Car” by The Wiggles was one of my favs.

It’s Your Birthday: finally a “non” happy birthday song! This is just great. It’s all about what goes on during your kids birthday, not just “hey let’s gather around the cake and sing a song”. With Boo’s 3rd birthday being this weekend I’m hoping to get the camera and video camera out and taking some good photos and video and mix into a “Hey it’s your 3rd Birthday” video for Boo! This song has the song and excitement to be a great lead-in to the opening of my video!

Our Imaginary Rhino: now who doesn’t like Rhinos? C’mon, this song is kinda catchy and good for your kids 3-6 years old. Boo seems to like the beat and even our 1 year old daughter, K-bop, claps and bops around to this tune.

Maybe the Monster: ok, ahhhhhhh, maybe the monster under the bed, maybe he hasn’t been fed, maybe he’s….. again Justin’s music has that upbeat, bebop flavor. this song is great for Boo who seems to think there are monsters all over the place. Of course, anything is a monster right now. I’ve played this song to Boo and tried to explain to him that monsters do not live under the bed, in his closet, in the hallway, or anywhere. Monsters just don’t exist, period, except for in the mind of a 3 year old. Fellas, there’s probably nothing to do to get that damn monster out of your kid’s bedroom at 2am, so I’ve taken to “camping” with Boo at 2am. Maybe it’s not the best thing to do, but hey, I’m asleep, Boo’s asleep, and the rest of the house is sleeping (except the cat).

After listening to all of Justin’s tunes I’ve actually thought about trying to turn my musical ramblings I sing to Boo in the car into something that I can record for him. Well that means I’ll have to dust off my guitar and really learn how to play it again. I can strum chords, but that’s probably all I’ll need to do to for kid music anyway!
