Granting a Wish at Christmas and Why I Love LEGOS

Posted by Jeff on December 17, 2008    620 views    Comments (View Comments)

Happy Holidays everybody! I’m a member of IZEA and in today’s email was another message about how IZEA teamed up with Sears and a few other bloggers to do (yet) another shopping spree dubbed Granting a Wish with Sears, similar to the one IZEA and Kmart did a few weeks ago.

So I was looking at some of the blogger’s sites and posts and found Chris Pirillo’s blog post where his part of the contest includes giving away $500 worth of LEGOS. How freakin’ cool is that!?!?

So if I were to win Chris’s contest by commenting on his blog post, tweeting to twitter and then writing this post, myself and my son who’s 4 years old would have a kick-ass Christmas!!

I will tell you a little story…

When I was 6-13 years old, or there thereabouts, I was a LEGO-maniac. I think my parents bought just about all the LEGO sets out there for me, for birthdays, Easter, Christmas, maybe even Groundhog’s Day, who knows…but man I had it good!

Cool Blue Tinted Windows

LEGOS were MY thing. I had just about all the cool LEGOS of the late 80s. So while listening to songs like Rock Me Amadeus, Sledgehammer, Land of Confusion and Axel F — to name a few, I was busy creating LEGO masterpieces. Of course my LEGOS where nothing close to what is out in stores now, but I thought they were kick butt! Especially when I got my first real set of Space LEGOS.

Those awesome blue tinted windows that went up and down!!! And the knobby tires for the moon vehicles!!!!

My cousin and I would play for hours building spaceships, moon bases and whatever else we could imagine. I actually STILL have my LEGOS…and they are STILL as they were 25 years ago! (as seen in the pictures – click for larger)

So I thought about giving my LEGOS to my son for Christmas this year since I know he’s been playing with them at his daycare. He loves the small LEGOS now. I think he’ll get a kick out of playing with them and I’ll probably cry when he destroys what I created 25 years ago, but at least he and I will have a good time together! We need it!!

So don’t forget to check out Chris’s blog and the others that are a part of Grant a Wish with Sears.

Comments from Other Parents...

  • Legos are the coolest thing ever! My 6 year old has officially become a lego maniac. He just discovered the Lego based video games recently (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Batman) and will spend all day playing them if we let him.

I'm a little jealous of all these cool toys my kids play with. Everything seems so cool and interactive these days. Back when I was a kid, we played with ROCKS and we were happy to have them, because we knew that our parents played with DIRT.
  • Agree: LEGOS rock! My 8-year old is in love with. He can sit for hours and make things. How cool is that? A toy without a video screen? I. LOVE. IT. Kids need to work with their hands (and their left brain). All this high-tech gadgetry is cool, I'm a gadget freak myself, but I love the quiet, creative toys just as much. Hey...a few colored pencils and some paper work too.

    Happy New Year!
  • yes, i'll have to add lego search to my weekly duties!!
  • Really great story! It's funny now to be cleaning up your living room and pull off the sofa cushions to see enough legos to build a small project. There is ALWAYS legos under them cushions!
  • I hope you win!

I asked Grandpa to buy Lego's for my son this Christmas. I hope he gets them. He doesn't have any and I just know he would love to play with them.

    Merry Christmas!
  • Hope so too! "Santa" usually helps out... Merry Christmas to you and
    family!
  • Boy, do I understand that LEGO passion! I grew up playing with LEGOs, but I didn't have much. In fact, I only had one set, but it was enough to make a few really neat contraptions. We ("we" as in the hubby, 4-year-old son, and I) just started getting into LEGOs again recently. And to help us jump start that transition, I was able to snag 35 lbs. of LEGOs from a lady who was selling her two boys' LEGO sets. The best part was that she gave it to me for $100; she even admitted that she knew she could get so much more for it, but wanted to unload it asap. It includes pieces from so many sets... I'm so overwhelmingly lost!

Anyway, I hope you and your boy win this one! LEGOs are awesome! ^o^
  • thanks for the good luck wishes!! 35 lbs of LEGOs wow!!! that is great.
    enjoy!
