Getting them involved in the process may help "plant the seed" for complianance. Especially if they think it's their idea.

It's funny- I was thinking about this just the other night. DH and I had a very rare Saturday free together so we enlisted the help of Grandma who agreed to have the kids stay overnight. Then, DD FREAKED out screaming that she didn't want to go and flailing around in her car seat hysterically. Normally I'd be angry and annoyed but I really just felt bad (we turned around & went home)- kids never really get to decide what they can and cannot do. It's good to give them ownership over some things (we let them pick out their clothes on non-school days and sometimes choose dinners and on activities they want to do) Some days I feel bad and really want to empower them and other days I just went them to SHUT UP and DO WHAT I SAY (and of course I say that in the nicest way possible :)
